As I look back on my life, it seems as if I followed a pretty predictable baby-boomer life pattern (Although the details certainly pertain to my own journey):

• Grew up in a small Midwestern town

High school graduation followed by a stint in the Army that included a memorable stop in the fun and sun capital of the world, Viet Nam

Married young, 2 children—one of each

Divorce and remarriage to my high school sweetheart (that might not be so predictable in a life pattern), followed by entering retirement with a restlessness that demanded I reinvent myself with an intention to ignite a passion that was quietly brewing.

And that passion brings me to the present. As a result of my own exposure to and the implementation of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/Tapping), I wanted to share what was creating a quantum shift in my life and providing relief and release for me from long held disempowering beliefs and stored emotions.

Training in these techniques, and finally following my long held desire to make a difference for others, has allowed me to support people to “tap” into their best life.

I started working at the Essential Care Center in 2015. Having since moved to Florida, I maintain that connection with my greater Kansas City Care Center patients through Skype and other computer communication services. I have also branched out from teaching tapping for finding better health outcomes, to additionally helping find better employment, a compatible partner, additional income, etc. for my Essential Care Center referrals. Information on how to reach me can be obtained by calling the Center at 913-432-4477.

MORE ABOUT Derek Garcia

Personal Bio

My name is Derek Garcia, and I am a graduate of Cleveland Chiropractic College. Growing up playing soccer year-round, and even on scholarship throughout college, has helped me appreciate a body that is working at its optimum potential. I acknowledge the body’s natural ability to heal and adapt to stress in the environment. When someone goes into a state of dis-ease or has a maladaptive response, I work with them to facilitate the return of the natural state of health and wellness. Utilizing the skills I have learned through Chiropractic training and education, I have already been blessed to witness the capabilities of human potential, when removed of interference. I strive to help people reconnect with their sense of wellness and achieve any health goals they have. I look forward to facilitating a return to health to everyone who comes into my office, as well as learning from each appointment and integrating the new knowledge into future visits. If a custom-tailored and natural approach to health makes sense to you, then I would love the opportunity to help you with discovering that process.

Explanation of chiropractic

Chiropractic is a philosophy, science, and art

The philosophy of Chiropractic maintains that there is a natural healing ability, called Innate Intelligence, within all people. Innate Intelligence utilizes the brain and nervous system to transmit the healing potential to the body. Due to the stressors of daily life, interference patterns, called subluxations, can cause the body to have altered tone, or incomplete input and output through the nervous system. Since the spinal cord, which is the main relay of information to the brain, is housed in the spine, the chiropractor’s main focus is on the spine. Utilizing a specific and skilled adjustment, the chiropractor removes interference patterns, and returns the nervous system to its proper functioning capacity. The Innate Intelligence can now empower the body to adapt, thrive, and evolve in its environment.

The science of Chiropractic utilizes the newest research in anatomy, physiology, physics, biomechanics, and neurology. Using objective functional measures, chiropractors are able to chart progress and evaluate the effectiveness of care. The scientific method allows them to constantly adapt and evolve a person’s care to fit their current needs. Staying up to date on the current research and discoveries allows chiropractors to have the most effective methods of care. If you would like more information, request some research articles.

The art of Chiropractic involves a multitude of methods to detect and correct subluxations. Chiropractors use many different techniques to detect subluxations, including visual inspection, palpation of the tissue, objective and functional examination, and sometimes even instruments. The standard adjustment, most known to the public, is the high velocity and low amplitude thrust on the spine. However, there are other methods that utilize low force and even no force input. The true art of Chiropractic is not only matching the method of adjustment to each individual person, but also using proper methods to detect the most appropriate location of input.

Explanation of tonal work

Tone has many different uses and definitions in the English language, however a common theme is the quality of expression. The tonal approach to chiropractic focuses on the quality of expression of your various tissues. This includes your nerves, all the soft tissue, and bone. This approach recognizes that the body is a bunch of individual pieces working together as a cohesive unit. The focus is finding any interference in the tone of your body (subluxations) and bringing it back into balance with an adjustment. Tonal work integrates different styles of adjusting based on the tissue; it can be a standard spine adjustment, or a light touch that uses breathing to release tension. The ultimate goal is to restore tonal balance and increase the quality in the expression of life.

Explanation of extremity work

Extremities, your arms and legs, are often overlooked, but have a lot of importance and value in relation to your body. While your brain sends information out to the rest of your body, it must also get information from its environment from somewhere. A large part of this input is from your arms and legs, especially your legs. Your feet give a large amount of sensory information that reflects on full body function. They tell our body where it is in space, maintain balance and equilibrium, and are absorb a lot of shock from movement. It is important that all of your extremities send proper information to your brain, so that your brain can send appropriate and sustainable responses back to your body. Interference within the extremities can cause altered information to go to the brain, and a cascade of improper function is the result.

Mission Statement

At The Chiropractic Connection Center we understand, acknowledge, and embrace your body's natural ability to heal, adapt, and maintain a general sense of health and wellness. We use a multi-system approach to help you integrate the stressors of everyday life; priming your nervous system to create a sustainable adaptation process to whatever environment you decide to explore. We encourage healthy living and work with you to help you create an ideal lifestyle. Our process facilitates your body's natural instinct to perform at optimum levels, utilizing a process that works for you, not to you. Our mission is to connect every person to a deeper sense of health and themselves. Come in and get tapped in, tuned up, and turned on.

Our vision is a community and world that is more connected, compassionate, and coherent with a natural approach to health. We aspire to empower all the families in our community to take charge of their own health and lives. Utilizing chiropractic, we strive to connect people to a deeper sense of themselves and their community.

Initial evaluation:30 minutes$60
Adjustment:10 minutes$35
Extra Care:5 minutes$15

What to expect, 1st visit

Filling out the paperwork located on the website will allow a quicker process when you come into the office. The paperwork shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes on average. During the first visit Dr. Derek will utilize a few objective screening measures. The process begins with a range of motion exam for your spine. If your current status requires it, there will be a few orthopedic examinations used to rule out serious pathology requiring possible referral. Following this there will be a functional movement and posture screen, video recorded, for a detailed analysis after your appointment (all videos are for the doctor and practice member’s eyes only). Next there will be a couple of neurological screenings to assess cognitive function. A conservative adjustment will follow. Dr. Derek prefers to examine all the tests in detail and formulate a care plan based on those findings before beginning regular adjustments. However, he realizes the reason you came in was to get adjusted and will provide that when appropriate. You will be sent home with a goal sheet to fill out (we know, homework is awful) so that Dr. Derek and you can be on the same page as far as what the intentions and expectations of care are.

What to expect, 2nd visit

Dr. Derek will begin with a report of findings, which takes 10 minutes and for which there is no charge. He will present to you his assessment of your initial exam through a functional score. Following this he will review with you, in as much detail as you would like, the methods of coming up with that number. Please note that if you would like more detailed explanations, you will be charged the hourly rate after the 10 minutes. Next, you and Dr. Derek will go through your goal sheet and he will give you the details of the care plan and his functional goals for you. You will also be provided with a brief explanation on the purpose of Chiropractic.

What to expect, regular visits

Once a care plan has been established a regular adjustment will be similar to the explanation that follows. Dr. Derek will do an assessment of your spine and tonal system. When necessary he will help rebalance any discontinuities in your body. Following this a spinal, extremity, and/or tonal adjustment will take place, depending on your preference. You will be asked initially if there are any immediate concerns since the last adjustment. You can expect a clearing of discontinuities and a full spine adjustment to take between 5-7 minutes. The remaining time can be used for an extremity adjustment or for specific tonal work. These visits will be approximately 10 minutes, but if you would like additional work it is billed at an hourly rate (broken down into 5 minute intervals).

Patient Stories

  • «I came to Dr. David out of sheer desperation. My 5 year old son had a severe peanut/tree nut allergy. His first day of kindergarten, he began having an allergic reaction when several of the other students pulled out their snacks with peanuts and peanut butter. Last week I watched my son rub a peanut on his lips with absolutely no reaction. I was smiling the entire way home from our appointment.»

    - Abby Downing
  • «I was skeptical, to say the least, but desperation won out over skepticism. We proceeded with NAET and the treatments were nothing short of incredible. Following NAET, she has had no reoccurrence or treatment for asthma in ten years. No inhalers, no nebulizer, no medications, no trips to the hospital for asthma!»

    - Betsy O'Neal, R.N.
  • «Intestinal distress had become a way of life for me. Dr. David was the first and only doctor who took the time to talk with me first and then examine me. He identified my very distressed upper and lower intestinal track among other weak areas and prescribed a vitamin and probiotic regimen that helped me begin to heal.»
